CBHI FUTURITY & DERBY |
This was our third annual Futurity/Derby and Open barrel race for the CBHI since taking over from the Prairie Gold. We had forty-eight this year as compared to fifty-eight in the 2007 Futurity & seventy-three this year as compared to sixty-three in the 2007 Derby. Given the time of the year and the fact that there were a few more Futurities & Derbies this year the CBHI is grateful for the great support that we received. The open barrel race was a great success with 269 competitors in the open and 47 in the youth on Friday night. We made changes in our format last year to accommodate the different venues and we will continue to work towards making improvements this year. The pole event has proven to be very popular from a spectator and participant aspect and the CBHI is looking at co-sanctioning this event in 2009. We wish to thank everyone for making this a successful event and it is our intention to address any problems, learn from our mistakes, and enjoy our successes and to make this event the best we possibly can.
The Futurity had eight CBHI nominated horses of which four placed in the top fifteen. Dee Butterfield on her Add A Dash mare sired by Perfect Possibility and Sheila Chamulke riding Bugs Perfection also sired by Perfect Possibility earned $600.00 and $400.00 respectively. Dee was the only competitor riding a CBHI horse placing in the top six of the second go earning her a cool $1000.00.
