The Canadian Barrel Horse Incentive Futurity & Derby was held in Thorsby, Ab. Oct.6 & 7th. Held in conjunction with an ABRA Open/Youth barrel race, poles on Saturday and the CBHI horse sale on Saturday night, it was an entertaining weekend with great barrel racing. This, our second event and was well attended with fifty-eight entries in the Futurity and sixty-four in the Derby.

Crimewave offspring won both the CBHI Futurity & Derby saddles and the year end high point saddles awarded by the Canadian Barrel Futurities, placing a total of three times, Fast Moon Chic had three offspring placing, Millionaire Playboy one placing, JDS Rebel Rouser one placing, Docs Paradise with two placings and Perfect Possibility with two placings. With $1000.00 added to both the Futurity & Derby these horses not only earned their owners extra money but the stallion owners will receive a cheque at year end. It pays to ride a CBHI horse !!!!

The sale was well attended and just gets better each year. The owners brought their best and the buyers had a great selection to choose from, with the high selling horse, a 2006 colt sired by Avid Dash and owned by Darards Running Quarter horses & Paints, selling for $7000.00. One of the buyers stated,” I can see this is where I’ll be shopping for my next barrel prospect.” These horses are all by nominated stallions and will be eligible to run for added money in future co-sanctioned CBHI barrel races. With forty-six nominated stallions in 2007 this has become the biggest barrel horse incentive in Canada, this incentive works!!!
